What is NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a system that prioritises care, choice and control for people with a disability under the age of 65. Launched in July 2013, the NDIS is for people whose permanent and significant disability has affected their ability to
participate in everyday activities.

Who is eligible for the NDIS?

To be eligible for the NDIS, you must meet the following criteria:

Age: You must be under 65 when you apply.

Residence: You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen on a protected special category visa.

Degree of disability: You must have a permanent disability that significantly affects how you communicate, live, move, or care for yourself.

Early intervention: You may be eligible if early intervention would significantly improve your functioning or delay or reduce a decline in functioning for you or your loved one.

What support can you get from the NDIS?

If you are eligible, the NDIS can provide funding for several things, including:

  • Employment

  • Early intervention

  • Accommodation

  • Community inclusion and participation activities etc.

You have the right to choose who provides your services and how they are provided.
